Lingzhi:(Ganoderma Lucidum) is a mushroom.



The Chinese have been using it as medicine for at least two thousand years. Its efficiency in promoting health and longevity is superb.



The remedial properties were described in the ancient Chinese pharmacopeia, 本草纲目, as follows:

• Tonifies liver, improves eye sight and sharpens the brain

• Taking it for long period of time would make people feel light and enjoy long life.



In order to feel light, one has to be free of serious illness, especially heart and kidney diseases. People with these two problems won't be able to feel light because the illness would cause shortness of breath on exertion and swelling at their legs.  For one to live long, one must not have cancers. So according to the ancient Chinese experience, we can see that lingzhi is truly a wonderful herbal medicine. It can help maintaining and promoting the health of various organ systems including liver, eyes, brain, heart and kidneys. It can also help make people free of cancers.

One other amazing thing about lingzhi is that it has no adverse side effects. It has a very wide range of safety margin. The dosage of concentrated form of lingzhi preparation can vary from one capsule for ordinary purpose to 20 per day for anti- cancers and other serious illness.



Lingzhi can be effective in brain cancer

Here is a case of brain cancer.  A 35 year old, healthy man, my friends son in Los Angeles, was found to have brain cancer, called Glioblastoma multiforme.  This is one of the most aggressive brain cancers.   Most of the people with this kind of cancer won't survive beyond one year.  This patient was treated by a team of doctors from Harvard University. All three classic ways of therapy were used, namely cut (surgery), burn (radiotherapy), and poison (chemotherapy).



Despite the best effort by doctors from the famous hospital, the cancer recurred after one year. New experimental chemotherapy was tried.  After two sessions, the attempt was discontinued because it was too toxic for the patient.  The doctor told the parents that the son would not live long, maybe in a matter of weeks. They should prepare for the event.



My friend called me from LA and asked whether there was any herbal medicine that might help his son. I suggested lingzhi. And I told him that the dosage had to be really high.  Twenty capsules had to be taken a day instead of the usual 3-6. In treating cancers shock therapy has to be employed, otherwise it wont be effective.



My friend did not have any experience with lingzhi.  Understandably, he hesitated to accept my advice.  After consulting with his two other sons who were doctors and concluding that there was nothing to lose, he finally decided to follow my advice. Starting in June 1998, 20 capsules of Lingzhi were given daily to the patient. To treat diseases serious and life threatening like cancer, high quality product had to be used.  Now one year and six months has passed; my friends son is still alive, with reasonably good quality of life.



Although he cannot walk without aid because of the damage to the motor nerve of the legs by toxic chemotherapy and his memory was affected by burn therapy, he is enjoying his life, laughing in front of television. He was very happy when his father bought him a new computer.



The most encouraging news is that the latest brain scan showed the cancer mass has shrunk somewhat. My friends son is going to live and enjoy life for many more years.


Think of lingzhi when having coronary disease



One quite amazing thing about lingzhi is that it can clean up plagues that narrow coronary arteries. In one case, a completely blocked artery was opened up again.  This is indeed difficult to believe. But I had to because I was presented with definite evidence: three angiograms. 



This is a case of Mr. Chen, a 55-year-old man from Penang. I interviewed him in front of his two sons in one hotel in Anson Road in Penang in 1997.



Mr. Chen suddenly had a heart attack in 1989. Angiographic study reviewed triple coronary artery disease. One tributary was completely blocked. No surgery was advised. He was treated with conventional medicine. After four years his conditions deteriorated. Repeat angiogram showed that the narrowing of the heart arteries was getting worse. By-pass surgery was advised lest he might have another heart attack any moment.



The patient was too afraid to have such a major operation.  A friend advised him to take lingzhi. He initially refused the advice because he took it before by boiling it. His friend explained to him that in such serious kind of disease highly concentrated form of lingzhi had to be taken and in high dose. Finally convinced he started to take 12 lingzhi capsules a day.  Then miracle happened. He began to feel better. The usual fatigue was gone.  There was no longer shortness of breath.  No more was the chest pain.  Eleven months after taking lingzhi a third angiogram was taken and showed that there was marked improvement of the coronary artery disease. The most amazing was the one artery that was completely blocked, was opened again.

Had I not interviewed the patient and seen the three angiograms myself, I wont have believed it.  I believe Mr. Chen's case is the only existing definite evidence that lingzhi  can melt stenostic plague of coronary arteries.

 

Lingzhi can help treat various clinical disorders

I will only talk about the clinical use of lingzhi from my personal experience.

Cure hand tremor - I myself had hand tremor for many years. It is my familial trait.  One of my brothers has it.  Out of my five children two have it. 



The symptom does not appear all the time, only when excited or after drinking coffee, beer or whisky.  It however could be quite embarrassing at dining table to spill soup with a shaking hand.  Then one day I was surprised to notice that my hand tremor was gone. Lingzhi has cured it.



​Biting trauma to mouth - When chewing, I frequently bite my tongue, lips or inner surface of cheek. Chewing involves several muscles and good coordination is necessary. Somehow my chewing muscles didnt cooperate well.  Mistakes in action inflicted trauma to my mouth. This symptom went away with lingzhi. 



​Low back pain - Most low back pain has no known cause. It used to cause me a lot of trouble.  Sometimes it was so bad I could not even sit up.  This also went away after taking lingzhi.



​Breast cancer - One of my cousins had breast cancer 7 years ago.  Was treated with radical mastectomy and post-op chemotherapy.  She had been followed up regularly every 6 months by her oncologist and was well until earlier this year when she was found to have elevated alkaline phosphates. 



This abnormal blood test indicated that the breast cancer might have spread to her liver. Without definite evidence of metastasis, the only thing her doctor could do was to sit tight and watch. Appointment was made for her to return for checkup every month. Naturally my cousin was worried.  She consulted me and my advice was to take lingzhi 20 capsule every day.  Two weeks after on 20 lingzhi capsules a day, the blood test was normal again. Her doctor was not told about the alternative treatment. But anyway, he was happy. Everybody was happy, too.



​Side effects of radiotherapy for cervix cancer - One patient of mine had advanced cervix cancer that had to be treated with implantation of radioactive material.  She developed chronic diarrhea with bloody stools.  She also had persistent bloody vaginal discharge.  These are common side effects of such therapy.  The only conventional treatment was to control diarrhea by medication. On my advice the patient took lingzhi  6 capsules a day.  Impressively both symptoms disappeared.



​Virus B Hepatitis carrier - My relative was a carrier of virus B hepatitis. The disturbing thing was that her liver function tests, SGOP and SGPT, were both abnormally high. Her doctor was considering giving interferon if abnormal blood test persisted.  After taking 6 lingzhi capsules daily for two weeks her liver function tests returned to normal.

In aggressive hepatitis, the liver becomes chronically inflamed and fibrotic, shrinking slightly.'


​Why lingzhi can treat so many kinds of illnesses?



This can be understood easily.  Each modern medicine contains only one constituent while lingzhi like other herbal drugs has many bioactive substances. In LingZhi, there are at least 4 major groups of active materials, namely polysaccharides, adenosine, triterpene and Germanium. Each group has different therapeutic actions. Some act on the immune system.  Some can induce apoptosis to cancer cells by affecting electrical potential of cell membrane. Others helps increase oxygen reserve in body tissue. Lingzhi also is known to be a very potent antioxidant.



What to consider in choosing lingzhi capsules？



There are few important things to consider. There exist different kinds of lingzhi in the wood and forests. These are natural lingzhi. But they are so rare that there wont be enough for commercial production. Thus all the lingzhi products in the market are prepared from lingzhi cultivated in farms.



Since there are different kinds of lingzhi, different places they are grown, different raw material used and different times of harvest, the quality of the mushroom would vary widely.

Methods of extraction are different.  The quantities of various bioactive materials in lingzhi products depend on methods of extraction. This has been discussed earlier.

Contamination problem is the most fearful one.  Its known that chemical fertilizers and pesticides are widely used in farming.  These two things contain toxic substances that, if left over in the lingzhi mushroom, could be dreadful.

Use of steroids is another danger. In order to impress, increase effectiveness of products or cheat, steroids are usually mixed with herbal products. One has to make sure that lingzhi used is free of steroids.

A lot of caution should be exercised in shopping for lingzhi products. We have to be certain that the lingzhi is of high quality. Because in treating serious illness, time of action might be the deciding factor for life or death.  We just can‘t afford to waste any time on poor ineffective products.



Safety is another priority to be considered. We have to be assured that the lingzhi is free of contamination of toxic material from pesticides and chemical fertilizers.  LingZhi is usually taken for long period. We don’t want any accumulation of any toxic material in our body.



How do we know which LingZhi is good?



Try to know the companies that produce lingzhi.  Choose the ones that have their own lingzhi farms. The reliability of the companies would increase if they have their products analyzed periodically by neutral laboratories.  Some companies are known to have liability insurance for their products. This probably is the best criteria for good safe lingzhi products.
