Ganoderma Nucleotides

Three pharmaceutically-active nucleosides, adenosine, uridine and guanine, have been isolated from ganoderma, so the term ‘ganoderma nucelotides’ usually refer to these three compounds.

(i) Effects on Cardiovascular and Nervous Systems

The three nucleotides found in ganoderma are exactly the compounds approved in western medicine and indicated for the treatment of hypertension, muscular dystrophy, stroke sequelae and ischemic heart disease. The combination of the three nucleotides is used as a medicament directly targeting neurosis. In fact, one of the bioactivities of ganoderma nucleotides is the efficacy described above in western medicine. This western drug is given by injection. It is effective in treating the cerebrovascular and cardiovascular systems and for nervous system treatment.

(ii) Soothing and Calming Effect

Many people who take ganoderma extract experience drowsiness, falling asleep easily and enjoy a better quality of sleep, while others become less impetuous or less likely to go off into wild flights of fancy (are soothed and calmed.) Such reactions indicate that ganoderma nucleotides demonstrate a stabilizing effect on the central nervous system. By adducing the experiment on ganoderma’ effect on killing pain in mice, it was shown that the active component isolated was adenosine.

A further experiment was conducted by giving rats a peritoneal injection of middle-dosage uridine (0.1nM) before dusk. It was found that such a method had a significant effect on reducing rat sleep latency. Clinical trials conducted in China showed that ganoderma extract imposed a positive, calming effect on sleeplessness caused by emotional factors such as anxiety, depression, frustration, anger and excitement, and on the difficulty in falling asleep due to stimulants. Such efficacy is closely related to ganoderma nucleotides also.
